Hardness 3 Grain Test Instructions
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
(DROP COUNT METHOD)
Test Kit No. OTKC09G
- Fill the measuring vial with the water to be tested and pour into the mixing bottle.
- Add one level measuring spoon of Univer 3 Hardness Reagent. If the water is soft, the sample will turn blue. If the sample is hard it will turn pink, go to step 3.
- Using the dropper provided, add the Titrant Solution Hardness 3 to the mixing bottle one drop at a time. While swirling the bottle, and counting the drops, continue the dropwise addition of the Titrant Solution until the colour changes from pink to blue.
- The total number of drops added to the sample to make the change from pink to blue equals the hardness of the water sample in grains.
- Record the number of Grains of hardness in your log book and/or in your Operator Log in eService.
Hardness ppm Test LR (2 ppm/drop)
(DROPPER METHOD)
Test Kit No. OTKC02
- Fill the sample bottle to the 25 mL mark with the water to be tested.
- Add 5 drops of Hardness Buffer.
- Add one level spoonful of Hardness Indicator Powder to the solution and swirl to dissolve.
- If a blue coloured solution develops, water is ideally soft. If a wine coloured solution develops, add Hardness Titration Solution (LR) dropwise, until the solution turns and remains blue.
- Record the number of drops x 2 Hardness in ppm in your log book and/or in your Operator Log in eService.
Sulphite Test Instructions – Range 30-60 ppm (3 ppm per drop)
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
(DROPPER METHOD)
Test Kit No. OTKC09G
- Cool sample in a full, closed container to room temperature.
- Fill the sample bottle to the 25 mL mark with the water to be tested.
- Add one level spoonful of Acid Starch Powder to the water sample. Swirl gently to mix.
- Slowly add High Range Sulphite Titrant (HR), one drop at a time, while swirling. Stop adding at the first tinge of bluish-purple that remains for at least 10 seconds.
- Record the number of drops x 3 as Sulphite (SO3) in ppm in your log book and/or in your Operator Log in eService.
Sulphite Test Instructions – Range 50-100 ppm (5 ppm per drop)

Conductivity Calibration Instructions
(OAKTON CTSTestr 50P Conductivity)
This meter cannot be used in hot water. Hot water will damage the meter.
To remove the battery cover, clear the front catch and then the back catch, before sliding the cover off.
Automatic Calibration
- Remove the cap and press ON/OFF to power on.
- Dip the sensor in at least 30 mm of calibration standard.
- Stir gently and press CAL/ESC key to begin the calibration.
- The display will show CAL followed by default value. CAL is indicated on the display during calibration mode.
- If the reading is within the calibration range of the automatically recognized standard 1410(1413), the ü icon is displayed when the automatic calibration standard value has been detected.
- Press HOLD to accept the auto conductivity standard and finish the calibration.
7. Display returns to Measurement window
Manual Calibration
When the conductivity reading is outside calibration range of the automatic conductivity standard (1410 (1413), the tester will require manual adjustment.
- Repeat steps 1 to 4 from “Automatic Calibration”.
- Press MENU to manually adjust the value to desired reading.
- Press Hold to accept and finish the calibration when desired value is selected.
- Once the calibration is finished and changes are accepted, measurement window will show the calibrated reading.
Note: To abort calibration, press CAL/ESC to escape.
Parafos® 0-16 GAMMA INDEX
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
(COLOUR COMPARATOR METHOD)
Test Kit No. OTKC09G
- Fill one of the comparator tubes to the 5 mL mark (first line) with the sample water.
- Add water that contains no Parafos (RO, distilled, bottled water) to the comparator tube up to the 10 mL mark (second line). Cap and invert to mix.
- Pour 5 mL of this diluted sample into the other comparator tube.
- Place one tube in the left top opening of the colour comparator box.
- To the other tube, add the contents of one PhosVer 3 Parafos® powder pillow and invert to mix. Allow sample to sit for 1 minute until a blue colour develops.
- Place this tube in the right top opening of the colour comparator box.
- – Multiply by 2.5x
- Record the Parafos Gamma Index level in your log book and/or in your Operator Log in eService.
